On June 5, 2019, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published on the Federal register a notice for public comments regarding the proposed extension of the current Form I-9, which is set to expire on August 31.

Form I-9 is used to identify and to verify eligibility status of individuals hired to work in the US. Employers must also keep completed Form I-9 for a period of time and have it available for inspection. The form was last updated in 2017.

There was, as required, a 60-day comment period that ended April 30, 2019 followed by a 30-day comment period. The current 30-day comment period ends July 5, 2019.
