GreenCO lobbyists Hicks & Associates presented a report on the 2020 Colorado legislative session last week. The highly unusual session began in January, was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak, reconvened after more than two months, and ended June 15. In all there were:

• 651 Bills introduced
• 260 Bills killed
• 135 Bills signed into/became law

Upon returning after the unplanned break, the session shifted. The legislature was forced to address a tremendous budget shortfall. Some pre-shutdown bills were postponed indefinitely, and a slate of new bills were introduced, some meant to address issues related to the pandemic or adjusted to reflect the current situation.

Pandemic-related acts involving unemployment insurance and paid leave were among the new or updated bills addressed during the reconvened session.
