UPDATE: The House rules committee rejected by a 4-7 vote an amendment by Rep. Andy Harris and Jared Polis (D-CO) to include an H-2B returning worker amendment in the continuing resolution after the House Appropriations Chairman suggested that this issue is controversial and needs to be addressed in the Judiciary Committee, not an appropriations bill. Reps. Polis (D-CO), Slaughter (D-NY), Hastings (D-FL) and Newhouse (R-WA) voted in favor of the amendment. Several other members support the program but suggested that the CR is not the proper bill to address the H-2B program.

Another urgent call to action for today, from the H-2B Workforce Coalition (at the bottom of the post). Here's what Coloradans can do now:

We need your help connecting with Congressman Polis’ office by noon today. Rep. Andy Harris, the main H2B champion in Congress, is asking the House Rules Committee to add the returning worker exemption to the temporary spending bill for the federal government (a continuing resolution). Representative Polis sits on the Rules committee, and as you know is a longtime supporter of H2B. Please call his office ASAP and ask him to support the H2B returning worker exemption in the spending bill when the Rules Committee discusses it this afternoon.

The meeting happens at 3 pm eastern, which is why we need your help by noon. If you’re in his district (Boulder, Mountains, some Fort Collins, Broomfield etc) please note that in your calls and emails. If you do work in the district you can note that too. 

The House Rules Committee will meet at 3pm [EST] this afternoon to discuss the rules for debating the temporary spending bill or continuing resolution. Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) is asking the Rules Committee to add a returning worker exemption to the bill during the Committee meeting. He needs your support!
