Safe + Sound WeekThis week, the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) observes workplace Safe + Sound Week. From August 12-18, OSHA encourages employers to put workplace safety initiatives into place and talk about ways that employees can help improves safety on the job.

“Businesses that incorporate safety and health programs can help prevent injuries and illnesses, reduce workers’ compensation costs, and improve productivity,” Osha explains.

One activity aimed at management and leadership is the “Take 3 in 30 Challenge.” The program encourages workplace leaders to take three actions in 30 days that further safety on the job. Management should then communicate to the company those three actions and lead by example.

Once the three actions are completed and communicated, leaders can download a “virtual coin” or badge to promote their achievement in social media or in company communications.  

“Leadership commitment matters and demonstrates workplace safety is a priority,” said Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Loren Sweatt. “Safe + Sound Week reminds employers that safety and health programs help businesses save money, eliminate injuries, and most importantly save lives.”
