WaterSense Awards recognize City of Aspen and Toro Company Email

Colorado Green NowA Colorado city, a Colorado water provider, and a veteran green industry company were among those recognized at the annual WaterSense awards. City of Aspen and Northern Water Conservancy District were named Partners of the Year, and Toro Company was honored for Excellence in Outreach and Training. The award winners were announced October 7 during a WaterSmart Innovations webinar held in lieu of the cancelled conference.

Coloradans asked to participate in COVID-19 exposure notification app Email

Colorado Green NowThe Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is asking Coloradans to install and participate in the state’s new COVID-19 Exposure Notification service that launched on October 25th. According to a CDPHE representative:

One of the key tools to slow the spread of COVID-19 is right in your pocket. CO Exposure Notifications is a system developed in partnership with Google & Apple to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by anonymously alerting users who have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. You may have already seen the push notification pop up on your smartphone to access this service. It is meant to complement existing state-wide efforts without compromising the privacy of its users.

COVID update Oct. 19: Denver, Adams, and Arapahoe Counties issue new public health orders Email
Monday, October 19, 2020 12:00 AM

City and County of Denver updated its public health orders in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. Public and personal gatherings are limited to five (5) people (effective through November 16), and masks are required outdoors (effective immediately, indefinitely). Read the update to the order.

Adams County and Arapahoe County have issued updated public health orders limiting gatherings and limiting alcohol sales.

SBA proposes changes to increase eligibility for contracting and loan programs Email

The US Small Business Association (SBA) has proposed changes to the small business size standard in eight sectors. These revisions are meant to increase the eligibility of small businesses for contracting and loan programs. SBA is asking for public comments on these changes by December 1.

GreenCOAfter several full days of interviews with candidates and careful consideration, GreenCO announced its endorsements for the upcoming election. Some of these Colorado candidates will also receive donations from the GreenCO PAC. 

“GreenCO supports candidates who understand the values and needs of business owners and work with GreenCO to find common-sense solutions to the issues we face,” said John McMahon, CEO of Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC).

Update on ProGreen EXPO 2021 plans Email

The ProGreen EXPO partner organizations continue to monitor the situation around COVID-19 and explore options for the 2021 event. Organizers have already confirmed many speakers, all of whom have expressed the flexibility to present either virtually or in-person should conditions change.

“We understand that our industry is eager to network, learn, earn CEUs, and explore the trade show again,” said John McMahon, CEO of ProGreen partner organization ALCC. “We continue to explore options that will allow us to present the conference and trade show while making attendee safety our priority.”

There is hope that restrictions may be relaxed when the 100-person indoor capacity limit expires September 30. The ProGreen partners hope to announce a decision in early October, and the green industry will be notified.

Fort Collins water restrictions include ban on lawn watering Email

No waterThe City of Fort Collins has instituted water restrictions due to ongoing drought conditions. Among the restrictions is a ban on landscape watering beginning October 1. The ban will remain in effect until an order of the City Manager lifts it; city officials expect that order to be made by November 30. A declaration made on Friday, September 11 declared the water restrictions, which affect both indoor and outdoor water use.

DOL proposes rule to clarify independent contractor vs. employee status Email

WorkersThe U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) announced this morning that it has issued a proposed rule that would help clarify the definition of independent contractor. The rule includes an "economic reality" test and questions that employers can ask to help them determine classification of the worker.
